This cheeseburger is designed to bring out the smoky, caramelized flavors of grilling while maintaining a balance of fresh, savory, and creamy notes. Follow this custom recipe to create a burger that’s as visually stunning as it is delicious.

Ingredients:

For the burger patties:

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for optimal juiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

For the toppings:

  • 4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 sesame seed burger buns (toasted)
  • Butter for toasting buns
  • 4 leaves of crisp Romaine lettuce
  • 4 thick slices of ripe tomato
  • Dill pickle slices
  • Thinly sliced red onion

For the condiments:

  • Tangy burger sauce (mix 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon pickle relish, and a splash of hot sauce)

For the sides:

  • Crispy sweet potato fries seasoned with smoked paprika
  • A light cucumber-tomato salad dressed with olive oil, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Patties:
In a mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties about 1/2 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing up during grilling. Let the patties rest in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Preheat the Grill:
Set your gas grill to medium-high heat and allow it to preheat for 10 minutes. Brush the grates lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Toast the Buns:
Spread a thin layer of butter on the cut sides of the buns. Place them face-down on the grill and toast for about 30 seconds to a minute, or until they develop a golden, crispy edge. Remove and set aside.
  4. Grill the Patties:
Place the patties on the hot grill and close the lid. Grill for 3-4 minutes on the first side without moving them to ensure beautiful grill marks. Flip the patties and cook for another 3 minutes, adding a slice of cheddar cheese to each one during the final minute. Close the lid to help the cheese melt evenly.
  5. Assemble the Burgers:
Start with the bottom bun and spread a generous layer of the tangy burger sauce. Add lettuce, followed by the cheesy patty, tomato slice, red onion, and pickles. Spread another thin layer of sauce on the top bun and crown your creation.
  6. Prepare the Sides:
While the burgers cook, bake or fry sweet potato fries, tossing them with a sprinkle of smoked paprika and salt. Toss together a simple cucumber-tomato salad for a refreshing contrast.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
Plate the burger with a side of crispy fries and a small bowl of salad. A cold, fizzy drink or a frothy milkshake makes the perfect pairing.
